Lingua Tech Singapore, a local SME and pioneer in the localization industry here, aims to promote the message of going green in 2008. The company believes it can lead the way for others to follow suit by highlighting the important part played by small businesses in preserving the environment.
In the coming year the company will launch an online campaign, and promote the message of conservation through its collaterals and communications.
Nickson Cheng, Lingua Tech's Managing Director, explained the company's motives behind the initiative: "Globally environmental regulations usually focus on large businesses and whole industries, yet small businesses generate 60 percent of all commercial waste and cause half of all environmental damage worldwide."
"Singapore has always enjoyed a good reputation as a green city and its businesses follow strict regulations on pollution control. As a result many companies here assume they have done enough. However, there is a growing realization of the need for smaller companies to do their part and embrace Corporate Social Responsibility principles."
"It is in every company's interest to be environmentally responsible, not only because it is the 'right' thing to do, but also there are cost benefits to be enjoyed by saving on power, paper and waste, and it improves a firm's image among environmentally-aware customers.", he said.
The company has already started giving out reusable shopping bags as a corporate Christmas gift this year to its client and partners, a deviation from the traditional norm of handing out non eco-friendly offerings such as diaries, notebooks and synthetic bags.
